Job Description
The Electrical Engineering Intern will have the opportunity to contribute to the dynamic team that is integral to the development of a range of projects related to renewable, electrification, integration of sustainable green technologies, and electrical utility distribution & transmission (T&D). They will get to touch on a wide variety of work for clients, both internal and external, related to large-scale solar farms, wind farms, hydroelectricity, microgrids, energy storage, factories, utilities, public and private institutions. Notably this will not be only in the national capital region, but across Canada. The quantity and complexity of the tasks will depend on the individual’s knowledge, autonomy, and willingness to surpass themselves under the supervision of a senior team member.
Will be asked to work a minimum 2 days in the office with the supervisor. (Hybrid work permitted)
Primary responsibilities
- Support designers to develop a preliminary, 60%, 90%, and IFC design that respects the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) and client requirements
- Perform design tasks for renewable and electrification projects such as power distribution design, electrical calculations, SLD design, and review work with team members
- Attend meetings and log minutes as needed to complete your own tasks or to support others
- Work with drafting professionals and software to develop site layouts and details, under the supervision of senior team members
- Use software and calculation sheets for simulations of electrical generation, transmission, and distribution networks (high, medium, and low voltage)
- Support in writing reports, manuals, and procedures
- Data processing in MS Excel and MS Access
- Perform research or testing of theories at a supervisor's request
- Other related tasks associated with consulting engineering
Qualifications
- Second- or third year of a University Electrical Engineering program (or sustainability engineering related program) OR second- or third year of a College Technology program (Electrical or Applied Physics).
- Have beginner to intermediate skills with Microsoft platforms, cloud and desktop based (Word, Excel, OneDrive, SharePoint, Access, Teams, and Outlook)
- Must have an ability to problem-solve both alone and in a group
- Resourceful if faced with a challenge but understand that it is ok to ask for help
- Has a desire to learn new and sometimes complex tasks, independently and with the support of a senior member
- Willing to make mistakes, when given an opportunity to develop a theory or design
- Has an ability to judge and set priorities, multi-task, and respect deadlines with the support of a supervisor or independently
- Proficiency in English in both verbal and written skills
- Proficiency in French in both verbal and written skills (Asset)
- Experience with AutoCAD (asset)
The salary for this position ranges from $23.75 to $29.40 per hour, depending on your academic profile, the number of credits earned, and your previous co-op or internship experience. The final offer and salary may be adjusted based on your unique profile.
